Rutgers Football: 5 freshman to keep an eye on entering in 2018
Much like Jones, Edwin Lopez was also red-shirted last season. Lopez can fit into the mix because of the lack of depth the safety position is experiencing.
Lopez was a three-star recruit and was rated the No. 2 safety prospect in New Jersey by Scout.com. In high school, he was voted as part of the First Team All-South Jersey by a local newspaper near his hometown of Camden, N.J.
In this video, Lopez describes how he goes by the nickname “Tank” and why he selected Rutgers. Lopez also saw time in high school at cornerback and could potentially play there at the collegiate level as well.
Isaih Pacheco may not get an abundance of playing time in the backfield behind other tailbacks such as Raheem Blackshear and Jonathan Hilliman, but he can still factor into the Rutgers offense in 2018.
He is a three-star recruit from Vineland, N.J. and posted good numbers in his senior season of high school. He had 154 carries and rushed for 1,414 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Pacheco has a solid build for a running back at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds and had the benefit of enrolling early at Rutgers to get a head start on his college career.
