4. Talented position group surrounding him

It’s simple for defenses to take away one player if that’s all an offense has to offer. But what happens when every player on that side of the ball is an actual threat? Bingo! More 1-on-1 opportunities.

Gary Jennings, the Mountaineers leading receiver in 2017, returns along with Sills for their senior season. Jennings hauled in 97 catches for 1,096 yards last year and often demanded help over the top because of his speed; this made navigating Sill’s side of the field easier for the quarterback.

Ka’Raun White is another player who helped Sills last year and vice versa. White scored 12 touchdowns of his own and just surpassed 1,000 receiving yards. These two combined for 30 touchdowns, so somebody will need to replace that production.

Marcus Simms will get an opportunity to draw defenders from Sills. He recorded 35 receptions for 663 yards as a sophomore, including five touchdowns.

The ‘Eers went without a spring game in 2018, but a number of young players are expected to break out and contribute this fall. A few other names to keep in mind are Druw Bowen, Tevin Bush and Domonique Maiden.
