Previewing the defense

The Ole Miss defense was a roller coaster ride last year. All levels of the defense had their own struggles at one point or another. Losses to Auburn, Arkansas, and Alabama saw the Rebels give up well over 125 points last season.

The defense also had issues shutting down some of the more inept offenses it faced. A loss to the Cal Golden Bears and especially the loss to Arkansas should have seen better efforts from the defense.

Ole Miss returns some key starters in both spots including defensive back Ken Webster, safety Zedrick Woods, and nose tackle Benito Jones. Webster could be yet another first round pick from this 2018 team. Key losses to replace fast include two defensive lineman in Marquis Haynes and Breeland Speaks.

One of the biggest problems for the Ole Miss defense last year was stopping the run. It gave up nearly 250 rushing yards per game and more than two touchdowns. Keeping a solid front seven is a huge key to success in the SEC West year in and year out. That could help the Rebels win a few more games too.
