Linebackers

Along with losing linebacker Al-Rasheed Benton to the NFL following the 2017 season, the Mountaineers are left replacing a few players who fell ill to the injury bug. The duo of Brendan Ferns and Quondarius Qualls were supposed to add depth at the position, but suffered injuries and don’t have specific return dates.

Charlie Benton, Sam Linebacker | 78 OVR: Charlie Benton is a JUCO transfer that enrolled at WVU in January. He came in as a safety (6-2, 213 pounds) before bumping down to linebacker. Benton’s a prime candidate to surprise opponents and propel WVU’s defense.

Dylan Tonkery, Mike Linebacker | 83 OVR: Bridgeport (W.V.) native Dylan Tonkery received preseason All-Big 12 fourth team honors from Phil Steele. He started four games apiece at both Sam and Will linebacker last season and played in all 13 contests.

*David Long, Jr.*, Will Linebacker | 91 OVR: David Long starred for the Mountaineers last season once he entered the lineup. He’s the leading returning tackler for WVU and was named to the preseason All-Big 12 team. Long undoubtedly is an *Impact Player*.

Key Reserves: Ferns (80), Qualls (80), Adam Hensley (79)
