West Virginia Football: Player ratings if NCAA Football 19 existed
By Phil Poling
Secondary
The West Virginia secondary, like their 3-man front, is unique in its own right. There are two cornerbacks and a free safety, but there’s also a Spur and Bandit safety. Plenty of shifting and disguising takes place, but it’s their ability to be flexible that makes Gibson’s attack a vaunted one.
Hakeem Bailey, Cornerback | 82 OVR: Another JuCo transfer for the Mountaineers, Hakeem Bailey arrived in Morgantown in the spring of 2017. He started three games while adding depth in 11 total.
*Kenny Robinson*, Free Safety | 90 OVR: Kenny Robinson was a 2018 preseason All-Big 12 third team selection by Phil Steele. He started 8 games as a true freshman in 2017 and participated in all 13 games. Robinson is a sure-fire candidate to be an *Impact Player*.
Dravon Askew-Henry, Spur Safety | 89 OVR: The most experienced Mountaineer on WVU’s defense, Dravon Askew-Henry has started 39 games over the course of his career. Often underrated and overlooked, Askew-Henry’s preseason accolades rolled in in 2018 (All-America third team, All-Big 12 second team, Phil Steele; All-Big 12 first team, Street’s & Smith’s).
Toyous Avery, Jr., Bandit Safety | 81 OVR: Toyous Avery is another experienced player in WVU’s secondary. The senior’s played in 19 games for West Virginia after transferring from a Georgia JuCo.
Derrek Pitts, Jr., Cornerback | 81 OVR: Another West Virginia native, Derrek Pitts has an entire state rooting for him. Not that all WVU players don’t but Pitts is from there. You can’t convince me there’s a rooting difference for kids from the 3-0-4.
Key Reserves: Jake Long (79), Keith Washington (79), Deamonte Lindsay (78), Kwantel Raines (77), Keith Washington, Jr. (77)
