Last Chance U: 5 most exciting Indy C.C. players from Season 3
By Phil Poling
No. 3: Emmit Gooden, Defensive Tackle | Tennessee (2018)
Emmit Gooden was a 4-star recruit out of high school and received much of that same attention following his Indy C.C. stint. According to 247sports, Gooden was a top 20 JUCO player in the country. He received offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and West Virginia, among other Power Five schools.
For the Pirates, Gooden controlled things in the trenches – especially when directly called upon. Against the defending national champions, coach Brown desperately needed a stop late in the game (after some bone-headed playcalling, I might add).
“Emmit!” coach Brown shouts from the sidelines. “Emmit, I need you right now. I need you right now to make a f—–g football play.” Gooden responded and stopped the quarterback on the fourth down run.
“They went for it?” Gooden questions, surprised a team would test him up the middle. “I stuffed ’em!” Gooden will continue his playing career with the Tennessee Volunteers this fall.
