No. 2: Carlos Thompson, Wide Receiver | Missouri Western State (2018)

Carlos Thompson started his college football career at Texas Tech after being a three-star high school recruit. He bounced around a few junior colleges before arriving at Indy C.C., but emerged as a leader for the Pirates after nearly getting kicked off the team following the season-opener. He’d later apologize to his teammates and emerge as the leader.

While getting blown out in that game, the Pirates looked to their kickoff return team for a burst of energy. Thompson, who returned kicks at Texas Tech as a freshman, took the second half kickoff 99 yards for the team’s first score of the season.

Feeling like his teammates weren’t giving their best efforts when he had the ball, Thompson jokingly said, “They block for everybody else because they’re watching me try to make moves!”

Thompson was the No. 1 target on the Pirates offense and caught 48 passes for 544 yards and three touchdowns. Standing 5-foot-9, the former Red Raider is an excellent slot receiver. His versatility showed at Indy C.C. when coach Brown installed the Wildcat formation, calling it “Poison,” with Thompson as the signal-caller.

NCAA eligibility rules forced Thompson to opt for a Division II school rather than Division I, but he’s enrolled at Missouri Western State.
