The Kansas Jayhawks are once again predicted to finish at the bottom of the Big 12. Is there any way they can climb from the cellar and at least win a couple conference games, though?
The Jayhawks open the season against Nicholls State, who finished 8-4 last year. Then they’ll travel to Central Michigan to play the Chippewas before hosting Rutgers in Week 3. CMU finished 8-5 last year, while Rutgers went 4-8. Best-case scenario for Kansas is going 2-1 in non-conference play, winning one of their first two games and beating the Scarlet Knights.
Unfortunately for the Jayhawks, conference play begins in Week 4 and will be a tough battle through the season’s end. Opening with Baylor, the Jayhawks must contain a high-octane offense right out of the gate. There are two conference games I’m picking Kansas as the favorite – their opening conference game against Baylor and their game after the bye week against Texas Tech.
Baylor won’t be world-beaters this season, neither will the Red Raiders. And since I’d rather not predict a win-less conference record for the Jayhawks, I’m giving them a shot in these two games – the conference opener and the game following their bye week.
