Earnest Sanders, WR/S, Flint (Mich.)

Earnest Sanders is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound receiver/safety prospect from Beecher High School in Flint. The visit Tuesday was the first football visit Sanders has taken. It was a great experience for him, and gave him a chance to see what a great school like Michigan State has to offer.

I asked his thoughts on the visit, Sanders replied ” great coaches, good facilities, I liked everything.” When asked to describe his game he told me ” strong, fast, and athletic.” He’s a guy Michigan State coaches could recruit at wide receiver or safety. He has great speed, instincts and ball skills. On defense he is a good tackler in space.

Sanders’ visit to East Lansing made for an interesting conversation with his dad. His dad also named Earnest Sanders played strong safety for the rival Wolverines. I asked Sanders what his dad’s thoughts were “he didn’t like it much lol, he said it’s still go blue.” I mentioned to Sanders that was actually the same case for current Michigan State linebacker Tyriq Thompson. He replied “my dad told me that him and his dad played together.”

Don’t let his dad’s connection to the Wolverines fool you, he has a lot of connections to Michigan State as well. Sanders informed me ” the thing I like most about MSU is that I know guys who went there. Courtney Hawkins is my football coach, and Marquise Gray is my basketball coach. Miles Bridges is like a big brother to me.”

Sanders informed me that he hasn’t planned a visit yet, “but I will, Mike Fletcher is a good friend of mine, so I’ll most likely catch some games with him.” When asked what an offer from Michigan State would mean to him, he said “an offer from MSU would mean a lot to me. It would show how much the coaches think of me, ’cause only the best get a chance like that, to play in the Big Ten.”

Some of the other top players who attended, but I was unable to get ahold of were Makari Paige, a safety from West Bloomfield High who currently has a Michigan State offer. Cornell Wheeler a linebacker from West Bloomfield High School. Wheeler currently doesn’t have a Michigan State offer, but is a guy who should get one sooner than later. Cameron Martinez, an athlete from Muskegon High, is a great athlete who doesn’t have a Michigan State offer yet.
