Michigan football has the talent to take a step towards championship contention in 2018. Their schedule, however, may be too tough to overcome.

The first three years of Jim Harbaugh’s tenure at Michigan have been as action-packed as any coaching tenure in recent memory. From the blocked punt to the spot, and offseason trips to see the pope, Harbaugh certainly knows how to drum up hype.

That hype, however, has not turned into results on the field. Michigan hasn’t finished better than third in their own division yet. They dropped five games last year. They still haven’t beaten Ohio State.

Harbaugh’s seat isn’t hot yet, and probably won’t be for at least two more seasons. However, this season could be crucial towards giving him a bigger cushion. If Michigan is going to return to college football prominence, it’ll happen this year.

The schedule starts off with what may be one of the most important games in all of college football this season.
