After a hard fought win against the LSU Tigers, Miami returns home for their home opener against another Tiger team. However, this bunch of Tigers is certainly more tame.

Here is a little history on Savannah State. They are an FCS team and have been a member of the MEAC conference since 2010. They have made only one NCAA playoff appearance in 1992, a loss in the first round to Jacksonville State.

The last time the Tigers faced Savannah State in 2013, then Miami coach Al Golden and then Savannah State coach Earnest Wilson agreed to shorten the fourth quarter to 12 minutes and have a running clock. The Hurricanes scored 77 points in the first three quarters on their way to a 77-7 win.  Since that meeting, the Tigers have gone 7-45 in the four plus seasons.

This one won’t be pretty and maybe Mark Richt and current Tiger coach Erik Raeburn will agree to another shortened fourth quarter. The Hurricanes’ biggest concern is escaping the game with no injuries. The amount of points scored in what basically amounts to a scrimmage does not matter much at all. We’ll give Savannah State the same 7 points as they scored five years ago and Miami scores one less touchdown in a rout.

Final: Savannah State 7, Miami 70 (2-0)
