1. Luck

For something like this to become a reality a lot of luck would have to be involved. If the scenario of a Group of Five team qualifying for the College Football Playoff ever plays out, there is almost no room for error or even a single mulligan for that matter.

It would take a perfect season from everyone involved. This is all without taking into account a variety of factors including injuries — which tend to be commonplace in a contact sport like football.

Contending for the College Football Playoff adds extra games to a season because of the nature of the system. That means a typical 12-week grind turns into a 14-game gauntlet.

Another part of luck ventures into the “right place, right time” avenue that at times, can play a role in a team’s success. For instance, a defensive player could end up in perfect position to intercept a pass to sway the momentum of a game.

Admittedly, luck is an intangible factor to measure but as with any sport, it has a way of weaving itself into the fabric of the game.
