West Virginia Football: 5 reasons Will Grier will win the Heisman
4. Grier is a grounded person
Not too long ago, the Charleston Gazette-Mail did a fantastic story on Grier’s famous family members and his life at home. Will’s brother, Nash, is a social media superstar and was one of the most famous stars of the “Vine” app. Even though Vine has been shut down. Nash still boasts 9.9 million Instagram followers and 7.1 million Twitter followers. No question his fame helped bolster Will’s status nationally once he got into college.
Nash isn’t the only famous Grier brother either, the youngest of the children, Hayes is also a social media star. He has appeared in a Hulu TV series and has been a contestant on ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars”. Will himself has hundred of thousands of followers on his social media accounts, however, he has been in a self-imposed social media ban since he arrived at West Virginia. He will look on occasion but hasn’t sent a tweet since February of 2014.
It’s easy to look at something like this and think “well he’s just an anti-star, he doesn’t want anything to do with the spotlight and that’s what the Heisman will bring”. I disagree, this shows me he’s a grounded star and is still a down-to-earth guy. He lives a quiet personal life with his wife Jeanne and their 19-month-old daughter, Ellie. Nothing humbles a man quite like parenthood, and for Grier his maturation has grown tenfold since his days at Florida.
