Last year’s argument against the Badgers turned out to be their weak schedule. Of course, there is nothing they can do about it- as the scheduling of BYU came when their program was much stronger. It also turned out in 2017 that the Badgers’ inter-division games did not include the three best teams in Ohio State, Michigan State, or Penn State.
This year, the Badgers will go on the road to face a much improved Michigan team in Ann Arbor and then off to Happy Valley to face an always-dangerous Penn State team. The Big Ten West division should be Wisconsin’s to lose, as they are still the favorites- but a couple of tricky road games at the two biggest West contenders in Iowa and Northwestern could prove to be bigger games than many people think.
In 2017, the Badgers could not afford a blemish on their schedule due to its weak parts- yet Wisconsin could still see themselves in a playoff race even if they suffer a loss in 2018. Of course, that would all depend on who beat them.
Regardless of the Badgers regular season body of work, their first goal is getting back to the Big Ten championship and taking down one of the East teams- who they have lost three straight title games to (Ohio State, Penn State, Ohio State).
Wisconsin should fair all right in its own division, but road games out east could prove to be the biggest challenges of the year.
