Running back

Starter: Travis Etienne

Backup: Tavien Feaster

Clemson has produced a number of great running backs during Dabo Swinney‘s tenure as head coach. CJ Spiller and Wayne Gallman are two of the most recognizable names from the position, but this year’s group could make a lot of noise at the end of the season.

When you look at Travis Etienne, the sophomore is one of the scariest backs to try to tackle in the open field. Last year he made defenses look silly as he averaged over seven yards per carry and scored 13 touchdowns while not starting a single game.

His performances last year have him firmly planted at the top of the depth chart, but I still expect him to split carries with his backups.

Tavien Feaster was the No. 1 running back coming out of high school in his draft class, and his sophomore season should have been his coming out party with Wayne Gallman departing for the NFL.

Feaster put up okay numbers while scoring seven touchdowns and averaging more than six yards per carry, and his speed will be an excellent weapon once again, to Etienne’s strength. While they will mainly split carries it wouldn’t surprise me if either back reached the 1,000-yard mark this year.
