Big 12 football‘s current crop of head coaches is incredible. But what if you were calling the shots and had to place each coach at a position on the field?

College football is great for a number of reasons – the stories, the traditions, the rivalries, etc. – but the versatility of the players is one that particularly stands out. Do their head coaches possess that same skills, though?

Seven current Big 12 head coaches played either quarterback or wide receiver in their heyday, but they all picked up a clipboard upon hanging up their cleats. They just couldn’t escape the game.

And while it’d be fun to place 4 quarterbacks on a single offense and throw reverse-pass after reverse-pass, we’ll be placing each head coach at 10 offensive positions, excluding the center position. Body types and speed won’t really be determining factors as most coaches are way past their playing days. Rather, overall game I.Q. and track record count for a lot.

ESPN ranked all 129 head coaches as players in 2016 with some of the following coaches landing on the list. We’ll start up front on the offensive line, then work our way to the backfield after visiting the wide receivers.
