Ohio State Football: Top 5 candidates to replace Urban Meyer if Buckeyes move on
4. Lane Kiffin (Head Coach, Florida Atlantic)
Again, another candidate that maybe out in left field for many, but since his debacle as head coach in USC, he has really reinvented himself. His tenure as Nick Saban’s offensive coordinator at Alabama was very successful winning a national championship in 2016 and appearing in the playoffs every season he was in Tuscaloosa. His first season as head coach at Florida Atlantic was a huge success, finishing 11-3 and winning the Conference USA Championship.
Kiffin comes from a great coaching background, his dad, Monte Kiffin, was a longtime defensive coach in college football and the NFL, with notable stops with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys. Lane Kiffin quickly rose through the ranks at USC and spent two years as offensive coordinator before joining the Oakland Raiders as head coach. Following a season and half, Kiffin was fired and had two stops as college head coach in Tennessee and USC.
To some, Kiffin may seem too immature and too self-centered to be the head coach of a program as respected and well-known as Ohio State, but Kiffin is a winner. In his tenure as a college head coach, he has never endured a losing season. While many of the Buckeye faithful will scoff at this idea, it may not be as crazy as it seems on the surface.
