3. Ryan Day (Offensive Coordinator and acting head coach, Ohio State)

The man currently filling in for Urban Meyer would be a safe and efficient choice to replace his boss. Day was promoted to the primary offensive coordinator role this winter following rumors of his connection to the Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator job. Day takes over the primary role from former Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson.

Day might be the least experienced candidate on this list at age 39, but he has been around plenty of innovative minds in his short career. He was a record-setting quarterback at New Hampshire under a young Chip Kelly and became an assistant for a season at New Hampshire following graduation. Day has since seen multiple stops at Boston College and Temple and other stops with Florida, the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers before coming to Columbus.

While some people have wondered why defensive coordinator Greg Schiano isn’t getting any love for this job, he is 52 years old, which is not young in the coaching profession by any means. Day is the quintessential brilliant, young mind to keep this Ohio State train rolling, but he could have this season as an audition to the Ohio State administration.
