It will likely come down to San Diego State and Fresno State to see who faces Boise State in the Mountain West title game. Fresno State has more pieces back on offense and defense, but both teams will be contenders through the final weekend of November.

Let’s presume that San Diego State wins the head-to-head showdown against Fresno State on November 17. Both teams will probably finish with at least nine wins, and the battle will serve as the de facto divisional title game.

Juwan Washington is going to come up big in this contest, but Christian Chapman is going to have a rougher day than he did the first time earlier in the season against the Broncos. A couple of interceptions could dramatically impact the final result of this duel.

Washington will have a big day, but so too will Alexander Mattison. The tailback is going to etch his name among the Boise State greats like Ian Johnson, Doug Martin, and Jay Ajayi. He will benefit from better offensive balance as Brett Rypien keeps the chains moving with timely, accurate passes.

The end result is that Boise State will cap a 13-0 season with a successful defense of their 2017 Mountain West title. Will it be enough to get them into a New Year’s Six bowl, though?

Prediction: Boise State 28, San Diego State 24 (13-0)
