Dating back to the Cactus Bowl loss against Baylor in 2016, the Broncos have lost three in a row against Power Five opponents. In Week 3, Boise State gets a chance to break that losing streak with their biggest statement opportunity of the 2018 regular season.

The mid-September trip to Stillwater gives the Broncos a chance to make a statement opportunity against a Power Five opponent. Oklahoma State finished with 10 wins last season, though they lost a lot of offensive talent from that squad.

Mike Gundy and his staff have to replace quarterback Mason Rudolph, winner of last year’s Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. Also gone are Rudolph’s top two targets, 1,000-yard receivers James Washington and Marcell Ateman. At least they get back running backs Justice Hill and J.D. King, which could change the complexion of the Pokes offense toward more called runs.

The Cowboys will try to wrangle the Broncos with a mediocre defense that gave up more than 400 yards and nearly 30 points per game. Against a seasoned offense like the one Boise State brings to town, it will be interesting to see if they can actually get any containment.

In 2017, Oklahoma State gave up 40 or more points on four occasions. This could be their first of the 2018 season, as Boise State stops its drought against Power Five competition in style.

Prediction: Boise State 41, Oklahoma State 35 (3-0)
