Now this is a tricky one to predict. Iowa State is one of the up-and-coming teams in the Big 12, but so are the Longhorns. Matt Campbell happens to be one of the top young coaches in college football and the Cyclones will be a force in the Big 12 for as long as he’s in charge.

Iowa State returns Kyle Kempt and David Montgomery, but losing Allen Lazard could hamper the passing game. Kempt will still find a way to torch the Texas defense, but he’ll finish with just shy of 300 yards.

Montgomery will be held in check, which has to be the main key to success in this one. If you can slow down the run game led by the talented running back, then the rest will take care of itself. The junior running back will finish with 75 rushing yards, but he’ll average less than 4.0 yards per touch.

Keaontay Ingram, on the other hand, will have a big day, going for over 100 yards while Sam Ehlinger, too, will rush for 100-plus. He’ll also pass for nearly 200 yards and two scores, tacking on another impressive win to the resume in 2018.

This Texas team will have a new feel at this point in the year with no mid-to-late season meltdown.

Final Score: Iowa State 20, Texas 30 (8-3, 5-3 Big 12)
