1. Brent Venables will be the next head coach at LSU

The Saturday Blitz team wrote earlier this summer about coaches on the hot seat, and current LSU Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron is on the list.

Brett Venables has been one of the hottest defensive coaching commodities for a number of years now. He simply has chosen not to leave the Tigers football program because he wants the right fit for his vision of how a football program should be run.

It makes a ton of sense for Venables to go to LSU. He is a defensive coach in a region full of defensive talent a stone’s throw away. He has the blueprint to slow down Nick Saban’s offense and keep their scoring totals within fighting range, and he won’t make a poor hire when it comes to finding the right offensive mind for his team.

Even though he has turned down offers before another run at the college football playoffs and a potential second national championship could be enough for him to leave Clemson for the next challenge.

That’s why I don’t expect to see him on the staff after the season is over as he begins to build the foundation of his program in Baton Rouge.
