Ohio State Football: 5 bold predictions for September 2018
By Shane Lunnen
1. Buckeyes stumble in September
We’ve already mentioned the three games Ohio State is a lock to win in September. There are two road games however that loom large and are potential losses for the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes travel to Arlington, Texas in week 3 to face TCU. While it is technically a neutral site game at AT&T Stadium, the crowd should be slanted towards the nearby Horned Frogs. TCU is replacing a lot of key pieces, especially on offense. However do not count out a Gary Patterson coached team, who is entering his 19th season as head coach.
The last Saturday in September the Buckeyes will face a steep challenge, traveling to State College. The Nittany Lions are also replacing key talent, but have plenty of talented replacements on both sides of the ball to challenge the Buckeyes. This series has seen some close games as of late, including last year’s thriller won by the Buckeyes by a point. This year’s game should be no different.
Penn State knows how close it was last year to winning in Columbus. Before a raucous White Out, the Nittany Lions will be fueled to beat the Buckeyes and take control of the Big Ten East as September closes.
It is doubtful the Buckeyes lose to both TCU and Penn State. However there is a good chance they will lose one of these games, casting doubt on their College Football Playoff chances.
