5. Get the offseason behind us

The 2018 offseason started off rather quietly once the coaching carousel fiasco in Tennessee slowed down. The aftermath was Jeremy Pruitt in Knoxville and all was right in the world (read: SEC).

Then, the bombshell went off that was Brett McMurphy’s eye-opening investigative report about Ohio State wide receivers coach Zach Smith and his domestic violence issues with his ex-wife Courtney. Urban Meyer poorly handled the situation and wound up in the midst of a three-game suspension that should have been the removal from his position at OSU.

Then Maryland joined in the controversy after the tragic death of Jordan McNair and DJ Durkin’s skeletons flying out of the Terps closet. The culture surrounding the Maryland football program sounds like anything but Building Men for Others which is what football is supposed to be designed around and driven by.

With Durkin and Meyer facing investigative committees and so far not coming out on top as anything but men driven to win at all costs college football has a black eye heading into the 2018 season. That’s aside from the residual filth covering our beloved version of the sport from the disgusting behavior at Baylor, Ole Miss, Penn State (nope, not letting that go) and the Michigan State athletics program.

Heading into Week 1, college football fans shouldn’t forget about these tragedies but can focus on the positives that make us love the sport. College football was designed to be a pure version of America’s new past time but between scandal and horrible modeling for our nation the NCAA needs the season to begin.
