Week 3: USC at Texas

Honorable Mention:

  • LSU at Auburn
  • Ohio State vs. TCU
  • Washington at Utah

Whenever one sees these two matched up, it is hard to ignore the history this team has, especially  with the 2005-06 national championship where then-Longhorns quarterback Vince Young broke the hearts of the USC Trojans faithful everywhere.

In their first meeting since that historic game, the Trojans squeaked past the Longhorns in Southern California in 2017 by a score of 27-24. In a game that should have been much more lopsided given the promise of the Trojans’ season, it goes to show that these programs are always ready for a challenge.

Looking at the 2018 meeting, both USC and Texas arrive in the preseason top 25 poll — coming in at No. 15 and 23, respectively. This type of game will be an early test, no doubt for each, but also a critical game to gain an advantage later on in the rankings.

The Trojans lead the all-time series 5-1, but it is safe to assume that the one Texas win outweighs all the others.
