The Egg Bowl is one of the more exciting rivalries in college football. It pits a pair of non-traditional powers against each other and tends to feature the unexpected and unpredictable with stunning regularity. Take last season as an example. 5-6 Ole Miss took down 7-3 Mississippi State in rather convincing fashion.

Fast forward to 2018. Mississippi State is a preseason Top 25 team. Ole Miss is not. Mississippi State, if they can get past Alabama, is being considered by many as a dark horse College Football Playoff pick. Ole Miss isn’t going bowling.

There are so many reasons why the Bulldogs should have the upper hand in this year’s version of the rivalry. Which makes it all the more likely that the Rebels are going to find a way to upset the Bulldogs in Oxford.

If that does come to pass the Ole Miss Rebels will be looking at an 8-4 season. That’s not bad for a team being picked to finish near the bottom of the SEC West. It’s definitely a step in the right direction for a program not that far removed from serious off the field issues.

Final Projection: 8-4
