DE Torrence Brown, DE Ryan Bucholz, QB Tommy Stevens, CB John Reid, Penn State

Penn State does not have any major injuries entering the season, but a few players are questionable entering their opening game against Appalachian State. Stevens and Reid may sit out this weekend and rest one more week before playing Pitt next weekend.

Brown and Bucholz are the major injuries to be aware of entering this season. They both retired from football after career-ending injuries, and they both could have been starting for the Nittany Lions in 2018 if healthy.

Though it does hurt their depth at defensive end, Penn State does have many talented young players who will make an impact right away despite limited experience. Shareef Miller is the only player with significant playing experience, but Shaka Toney, Yetur Gross-Matos, and Shane Simmons will all have opportunities to step up in 2018.

Toney, Gross-Matos, and Simmons all have sophomore eligibility. They are a young core of ends that will be terrorizing Big 10 quarterbacks for the next three seasons, making the losses of Brown and Bucholz less noticeable for the Nittany Lions.
