2. Michigan St. wide receivers are impressive

While they didn’t get excellent quarterback play, the Michigan St. receiving corps managed an impressive opener against the Utah State Aggies. Five different targets caught a pass in the first half, four of which had two or more receptions, including running back L.J. Scott. Another three players caught passes in the second half – including an offensive lineman off a tipped ball – totaling 8 different Spartans to catch a pass.

Senior Felton Davis III continues to be a mismatch for opponents with his 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame. He only caught three passes for 69 yards and a score, but made the catch of the night on the Spartans game-winning touchdown drive.

Another tall wide receiver for the Spartans made his presence felt, 6-foot-3 Cody White. He was on the receiving end of a couple touchdowns, but only one that counted due to a penalty. He ultimately finished with five receptions for 70 yards and the lone touchdown.

With improved protection and better decision-making from their signal-caller Brian Lewerke, the Michigan St. wide receivers could prove to be one of the best units in all of college football. This group will only improve.
