The Beavers will finish September with more wins than they earned in all of 2017. Last year, Oregon State’s only victory came against FCS Portland State. Defeating Ohio State in the season opener is a tall task, but the Beavers get to play FCS Southern Utah the following week. Along with a win over Nevada, they will finish the month 3-2 after taking down Arizona State at the end of the month.
Jake Luton is going to break out at quarterback now that Darrel Garretson is gone from Corvallis. With Garretson in the fold, Luton could never get sufficient reps to develop. Now that his counterpart has graduated, the offense is Luton’s alone to guide. He is going to surpass his season yardage total before facing Arizona State at the end of the month.
With nowhere to go but up, Oregon State’s defense is going to progress toward the mean as the unit improves upon its numbers in the 120s last season. The Beavers will still rank in the bottom half of the country, but coupled with stronger offense it will equate to a far more competitive Oregon State squad this season.
