Boise State Football beats Troy to stay atop Group of Five race

Boise State is still behind UCF in the Group of Five race
Boise State did a lot to consolidate their position among the top 25 teams in the country. The Broncos should have no problem remaining ranked in both major polls, and they could even move up a spot or two this week based on everything else that happened around the country.
But while Boise State ran away with the non-conference showdown between New Year’s Six dreamers, they still remain behind the front-runner to go back to a major bowl game this year. Like Boise State, UCF was also on the road. And like Boise State, UCF also put up 56 points in their season opener.
Unlike Boise State, however, the Knights gave up fewer than 20 points on the scoreboard. UConn isn’t quite the caliber of opponent that Troy brought to the field, but in the perception of pollsters ,the Knights will remain above the Broncos.
There is still plenty of time to make up ground on the team with the longest current winning streak in the country. But it also must be noted that, as long as UCF continues winning, Boise State will naturally find themselves playing second fiddle to the American Athletic Conference favorites.
The game against Oklahoma State in two weeks will give Boise State the opportunity to really break through and assert its place in the national hierarchy. For now, the Broncos will have to content themselves with 1B status in the Group of Five race.
