America’s favorite Saturday morning show, College GameDay opened the season in South Bend. Who did Lee Corso pick to win the Michigan vs Notre Dame game?

There are few programs as storied in college football history as the Michigan Wolverines and the  Notre Dame Fighting Irish. These two heavyweights haven’t been atop of the mountain recently and the pressure of winning another National Championship continues to escalate. It’s not a make or break year for either program, yet, but both programs don’t tolerate losing lightly.

Both Jim Harbaugh at Michigan and Brian Kelly and Notre Dame know the importance of their season opener. A win in a battle of two Top 25 programs would be a valuable notch in their belt and would keep the dream of an undefeated regular season alive. A loss wouldn’t crush their future plans entirely, but it would put them behind the eight ball early on in the 2018 season.

On campus for this College Football Playoff shaping contest are Lee Corso and the College GameDay crew. He, along with Kirk HerbstreitDesmond Howard have made their picks for the upcoming slate of Week 1 games, saving the most significant showdown for last. As is tradition, Corso saved his pick for last.

When it came time to make his projection official, Corso made his selection: the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The College GameDay crew will head south to Texas next weekend for a matchup between Clemson and Texas A&M. Texas A&M won their last appearance on the show in 2016, defeating Tennessee in overtime in College Station. Swinney’s Tigers should be a much more challenging test.
