1. Brandon Wimbush remains a wild card

There was an assortment of different takeaways in regard to how this game proceeded, but the key to Notre Dame’s success has always been quarterback Brandon Wimbush. Therefore, it made most sense to delve into Wimbush’s performance to close this out.

Wimbush kicked off this game with a bang, leading the Irish to touchdowns on consecutive drives. The senior would continue his roll into the second quarter, eventually putting the Irish up by a score of 21-3. All in all, this great start was exactly what Wimbush needed after being benched in favor of Book in last year’s season finale.

However, Wimbush displayed a little too much confidence in his arm on a few occasions. Most of these decisions came in the wake of immense pressure in the pocket, something Wimbush should be able to work on as he grows as a passer. All things considered, it was a decent night for Wimbush and should set a foundation for him as he begins his senior year.

While offense is always good for conversation, it’s important to note the dominant play of Notre Dame’s defense against the Wolverines. There were some questions in regard to what we would see out of this Shea Patterson led offense, but the Irish defense answered the call. Overall, consider this game a success.
