West Virginia football lives up to hype in win over Tennessee

1. Will Grier is as good as advertised

Game 1 of the 2018 WVU football season is in the books and Will Grier performed just as well as expected. The senior threw for 429 yards and five touchdowns on 25-of-34 passing.

Twice he connected with his go-to target from a year ago, David Sills, for six, and Gary Jennings, T.J. Simmons, and Kennedy McKoy each caught a score. In all, Grier found nine different targets Saturday.

After a few missed throws in the first half, Grier looked like he was competing against air. Everything the ‘Eers called was working. He was dropping balls into spots that the wide receiver didn’t even know were open yet. From perfectly executed wheel routes, to fitting the ball in tight windows, Grier threw his hat in the Heisman ring early.

If Saturday’s game is any indication of what’s to come for WVU football, Morgantown, West Virginia is not a safe place. Football games will be won. Couches will be burned. The Mountaineers are putting the nation on notice — they’re for real.
