Georgia pitched a shutout on Saturday against overmatched FCS opponent Austin Peay. The defending SEC champions gave up only 152 total yards of offense against the Governors between the hedges. Only twice did Austin Peay even manage to get into Georgia territory. The first time, at the beginning of the second quarter, the Governors missed a field goal. The second time, on their penultimate drive of the game, Austin Peay turned the ball over on downs.
Despite losing Sony Michel and Nick Chubb to the NFL, the Bulldogs seemed just fine on the ground. Three different running backs scored touchdowns, led by Demetris Robinson’s 72-yard scoring burst. No player got more than eight carries, but as a team, Georgia finished with 284 yards on 33 carries as four players averaged more than 10 yards per carry.
Jake Fromm continued to look like a competent caretaker quarterback, completing 12-of-16 for 157 yards and two passing touchdowns. Georgia won’t leapfrog Alabama or Clemson after their emphatic shutout of the Governors, but they will remain anchored at No. 3 in the AP Top 25 this week.
