Another force upfront for the Fighting Irish was defensive lineman Jerry Tillery. The senior from Shreveport, La., was an absolute terror for the Wolverines to contain. He only recorded three tackles — two solo — but added a sack and opened many avenues for his teammates to accrue stats.

At 6-foot-7,  305 lbs., Tillery isn’t often out-sized in the trenches. Looking at Michigan’s 2018 roster, only two of the 21 listed lineman have both the height and weight advantage over Tillery.

This was on full display Saturday as the Fighting Irish defense held Michigan to only 10 points and 1.8 yards per rush. Michigan isn’t a passing team, either, so it’s not like the Wolverines didn’t want to run, they just couldn’t.

The Wolverines did throw for 249 yards, but failed to reach the endzone and turned the ball over late, all-but-sealing the game for Notre Dame. Tillery, however, gets a Blitz Sticker for his contributions in the trenches where the Irish won the game.
