The first week of the season saw a couple disappointing defeats in Big 12 football. However, the top teams still stand, as a new contender emerges.

Week 1 is behind us. It was a week filled mostly with expected results, as no ranked teams fell to unranked teams, and most upsets were relatively minor. Most of the nation’s top teams got the job done, and that held true in the Big 12 as well, with three teams falling, though two of those three were at least slight upsets.

Kansas, Texas and Texas Tech will all drop in this week’s power rankings because of their losses, but outside of those teams, there really wasn’t a ton to talk about in the conference this weekend. The best teams looked great, and in general, it was a pretty good weekend for the Big 12, even if they couldn’t get a marquee win over the SEC in the Texas Tech vs. Ole Miss game.

As the season goes on, this list will obviously evolve more and more, but through just one week, we can only learn so much. It’s fun to overreact to first week results, but it’s important to remember that a lot can change between now and the end of the season. With that in mind, this is not a predictive ranking, it’s a reactive ranking. That means that some teams (Texas) will be lower than they’ll probably finish come November.

With that said, let’s jump in to the Week 1 power rankings of the Big 12.
