4. Old school action

If you’re like me you love a little old school ground and pound college football mixed in with your run-pass options. Three matchups have the making for beaucoup rushing yards.

Mississippi State, coached by Joe Moorhead, will look for a balanced RPO based offense that will run the football but put up some serious passing yardage as well. The Bulldogs will face off with Kansas State and their neanderball offense, as Ian Boyd once coined the system Kansas State runs. Bill Snyder loves using his quarterback in a feature back role dating back to the 1990s and keeping that consistent into 2018.

Memphis and Navy is another game with a ton of rushing potential. Memphis ran for over 300 yards against the Mercer Bears and toted three touchdowns across the goal line. The Tigers averaged 6.9 yards per carry moving to 1-0 on the season. They’ll face off against the Navy Midshipmen. It might have lost in a shootout to the Hawaii Warriors but Ken Niumatalolo’s offense eclipsed the 300-yard rushing numbers while averaging 6.7 yards per carry. The Middies scored five rushing touchdowns, including four by Zach Abey.

Michigan State might have their best quarterback behind center in quite some time but Brian Lewerke will look to control the clock with accurate passing and the Spartans will have their usual running game on display. LJ Scott returned for his senior season and ran for 84 yards in Week 1. The Arizona State Sun Devils are coached by former NFL head coach Herm Edwards. His offense was on fire in Week 1 and the backs combined for 200 yards and two touchdowns in his debut.
