5. That canceled game

In the moment, a canceled game doesn’t seem all that bad in college. However, the circumstances surrounding might be more concerning the Cyclone fans realize. The fact they only played ten snaps and didn’t even get a quarter is concerning because the Cyclones didn’t get a chance to shake off the rust of the off-season, which is what week one is normally used for.

Iowa State now not only has to deal with just working out the kinks, they have to do so quicker than normal because against an opponent like Iowa, they will take any big mistake you have and seize the opportunity right then and there. Kyle Kempt only threw a handful of passes and not many for a far distance, as the touchdown to Deshaunte Jones was a simple screen pass that went for a long catch and run.

The more and more you look at it, that canceled game against South Dakota State hurts the Cyclones more than anything. Yes, they didn’t have any injuries or anything of that nature, but the rust, for the most part, is still there and Iowa State will have to shake it off fast or the Hawkeyes will pounce right away.
