After quite an interesting Week 1, the college football AP Poll shook up just a little bit. Who were the biggest winners and losers this week?
Week 1 brought with it upsets and disappointments galore. Some of those higher ranked teams found themselves a lot lower down than they expected to be at this point in the season. Some may be able to recover and some may have a lost cause on their hands in terms of the road to the championship.
LOSER: The Texas Longhorns- No. 23 to Not Ranked
The age old question has been asked once again- is Texas back? So far, the answer is an extreme negative. Tom Herman and company fell to Maryland for the second straight season. Dropping from No. 23 to not being ranked isn’t a far fall. So, how bad is this loss?
The Longhorns join Rutgers as the only two teams that Maryland has beaten twice since 2015. Maryland is 2-22 against ranked teams since 2011. Both wins have come against Texas. In Week 1, every ranked team who played an unranked team won by an average of 37 points- except Texas who lost 34-29. Those aren’t exactly pleasing statistics if you like to wear burnt orange on Saturdays. As a result, the Longhorns are the first of the biggest losers on my list this week.
