QB Jake Luton, Oregon State

Luton suffered a concussion in Oregon State’s 77-31 loss to Ohio State in Columbus. He is listed as questionable for their game on Saturday against Southern Utah.

He originally committed to Idaho and played one season for the Vandals before playing junior college football at Ventura. He dominated at Ventura and threw 40 touchdowns in 11 games.

Luton then committed to Oregon State and only played in four games in 2017 before being carted off the field and suffering a thoracic spine fracture.

He only completed one pass last Saturday before suffering another injury, and Conor Blount will start this Saturday if Luton is unable to play.

Blount has only played in four games in his career, and he is currently a redshirt sophomore. He threw for 169 yards and completed 12 of 19 passes last Saturday. He had two passing touchdowns and zero interceptions.

After finishing 1-11 last season, there are not high expectations surrounding the Oregon State program. Head coach Jonathan Smith, who last was the co-offensive coordinator at Washington, is simply trying to make the Beavers relevant in the Pac-12  Conference for the first time since 2013, the last year Oregon State had a winning record.

Having Luton back and healthy would be great, but giving a younger Blount more game experience would be helpful for this program as well.
