1. N’Kosi Perry, Cade Weldon won’t play early

Miami Hurricanes quarterback Malik Rosier has struggled to make the reads and throws necessary of an ACC caliber passer. Yet, Mark Richt is unflinching in his support for Rosier. Even Malik Rosier himself has said if he continues his poor play he should be benched but Mark Richt doesn’t seem like that’s even an option. However, the Hurricanes can’t win if they’re going to convert on only six-of-sixteen third downs and throw two embarrassingly bad interceptions.

With Mark Richt’s roster management style being pick a quarterback and stay with him, I doubt that he gets N’Kosi Perry (suspended against LSU) or Cade Weldon and playing time in the first quarter against Savannah State. If either Perry or Weldon came in early it would not only separate them from each other, which Richt seems uninterested in doing, but it will also supply doubt in Rosier.

Many top level programs around the country have started to play their backup quarterbacks in important duty in the first quarter. Nick Saban did so with Tua Tagovailoa in 2017, and now with Jalen Hurts in 2018. Clemson has done so with Trevor Lawrence in 2018, and Georgia coach Kirby Smart gave Justin Fields some rub in week one as well. There isn’t much a coach can tell about a quarterback when they only play in mop up duty. Coaches need to see their quarterbacks react early in the game when the final score is still yet to be determined.

Prediction: Savannah State 10, Miami 45
