5. Michigan

The Michigan football program is in dire need of a great season. They’ve got a head coach who can lead them to third place in the Big Ten East, but isn’t the storied school in Ann Arbor supposed to win titles? Jalen Hurts has played two college football seasons and quarterbacked his team to the title game each year.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh arrived at Michigan in 2015 and put together back-to-back 10-win seasons (with Brady Hoke‘s talent). He did so without much of a passing game and relied heavily on the run game and his defense. Now, the fourth-year head coach is clinging to a transfer at quarterback rather than playing the kid he brought in to run his program – Dylan McCaffrey.

Harbaugh knows what he’s doing, though. He played quarterback at Michigan in the ’90s, so maybe this is all just par for the course. But to be at the helm for four years and still not have a quarterback? Who does he think he is, Dana Holgorsen?

Hurts would be forced to sit the 2019 season if he chooses to transfer – unless he finishes his degree, then he’ll be eligible immediately. But are we sure Harbaugh will still be at Michigan next year? In 2020? McCaffrey could blossom into a star by then, but Hurts is a proven commodity.
