Penn State football took on their in-state rival Pitt on a sloppy night. What did we learn from a 51-6 beatdown by the Nittany Lions?
Penn State used a dominating performance in the second half against Pitt to cruise to a 51-6 victory. It was the most lopsided victory in the series since 1992 when the Lions beat the Panthers 57-13.
Penn State scored on their first drive, but Pitt answered with a touchdown of their own. However, they missed the extra point. The teams also traded missed field goals and it seemed it would be a low scoring affair. Then the second half would turn into a rout with the Lions running up the score.
The story of the game was Penn State taking complete advantage of Pitt mistakes on special teams and on offense. Pitt also was called for 14 penalties for 116 yards, which ended up being more yards than the Panthers had passing.
Penn State seemingly corrected the mistakes they made during last week’s close victory against Appalachian State. What else did we learn? Here are three takeaways from the game.
