Big 12 football has yet to prove itself on the national stage this year. With a loaded schedule of big opponents, is this put up or shut up week?

Another week, another less than ideal showing for the Big 12, specifically in games against major opponents. After Texas Tech, Texas and Kansas were all embarrassed in the first week of the year, this past weekend was slightly better, but still lacked the firepower of a big win that the conference needed.

That certainly isn’t for a lack of opportunity, as three power five opponents sat on the Week 2 schedule for Big 12 teams. While Oklahoma took care of business against a bad UCLA team, Iowa State fell to Iowa, and Kansas State couldn’t get anything done against Mississippi State. While neither of those teams were really expected to win, it’s still disappointing that through two weeks the Big 12 is without a marquee win.

However, they have more chances on the schedule this weekend, with a whopping six power five teams on the schedule, and three ranked matchups against Boise State, Ohio State and USC. If the Big 12 can put up a good showing this week, it would be a huge boost for their national standing as a whole.

For right now, the top of the Big 12 is still the top of the Big 12. Oklahoma continues to dominate, TCU looks like easily the second best team, and behind them is a whole lot of questions. This week, those questionable teams have a great opportunity to rise up the national rankings, and the Big 12 rankings. This week, however, our Big 12 power rankings look a lot like they did last week.

Weekly reminder, these picks are reactive, not predictive. They’ll stabilize more as the season moves forward, but for right now, we have just two games to go off of. That means that bad performances are amplified, which puts some teams that will probably improve into a pretty bad spot. Without any further adieu, let’s get into these power rankings.
