I’m still not anywhere near buying in on Texas Tech and Kliff Kingsbury, but their performance against Lamar this past weekend was certainly impressive. Lamar is a bad team, but any time you beat a team 77-0, it’s hard for people to not take notice. Freshman quarterback Alan Bowman looked fantastic, as did the rest of the offense.

The defense was similarly great, and it was just an all around great bounce back game. I’m super interested to see what Texas Tech does this weekend when they face Houston. If they can win that game, they’ll likely move into the top five of this list next week.

Through two weeks, Baylor has doubled the wins they had in 2017, and they’ve done it in pretty impressive fashion. The Bears didn’t look great against UTSA, keeping it a little too close for comfort, but a 37-20 win is still a win, and Baylor is one of five undefeated teams in this conference, so they come in at fifth here.

I don’t expect it, but if Baylor beats Duke this week, they’ll start to become a pretty serious contender to be one of the better teams in the conference. Just one year into the Matt Rhule era, that’s a pretty impressive turnaround from his 1-11 start last year, albeit under bad circumstances.
