5. Random undefeateds that could stay that way

Syracuse, Maryland and Vanderbilt are all undefeated and could remain that way through Week 3. I know for many it’s not that exciting to see these three programs of all programs having a good start to their season but Dino Babers has the Orange playing really good football.

The Orange host the Florida State Seminoles at noon on ESPN, even if they’ve had poor attendance numbers. Quarterback Eric Dungey has accounted for eight touchdowns while averaging 8.2 yards per passing attempt. The Seminoles and Willie Taggart have been off to a terrible start and the Orange could come away with a victory that would hardly be an upset.

Maryland interim head coach Matt Canada has the Terps sitting at 2-0. Maryland has knocked off Texas and Bowling Green on the consistency of Kasim Hill and the running game of Ty Johnson and Tayon Fleet-Davis who have ran for four touchdowns on the season. The Terrapins host a struggling Temple Owls program sitting at 102nd in the country per the S&P+. The Owls and Terps are playing at noon on the Big Ten Network.

Vanderbilt is putting together a solid start, 2-0 and ranked 23rd in the S&P+ analytics. The Commodores have quarterback Kyle Shurmur has averaged 8.74 yards per attempt and tossed four touchdowns with no interceptions. The Fighting Irish have knocked off the Michigan Wolverines but struggled with Ball State. The Irish are 17th per the S&P+, again only six spots higher than Vandy, but they get to host the Commodores at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
