The weekend saw several shifts in the Group of Five hierarchy. Several highly-regarded programs sustained their first losses of 2018. Other teams that were off the radar asserted their presence with big upsets over Power Five opponents.
As the season begins to really get going in earnest, we are starting to see the Group of Five field come together more clearly as a result. But inclement weather is going to make things interesting once again for the College Football Playoff selection committee.
Last year it was Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma that wreaked havoc on the 2017 schedule. This year, Hurricane Florence is threatening to make landfall on the eastern seaboard. As a result, at least one prominent Group of Five team has already seen their opportunities to make waves against Power Five opponents canceled for Week 3. In most cases, those will never get the chance to be rescheduled.
