3. Brady White starting to come into his own at quarterback for Memphis

Brady White took over at quarterback after Riley Ferguson put up one of the most prolific passing seasons of 2017. Memphis has a history of productive quarterback play, with Ferguson succeeding Paxton Lynch at the position under center for the Tigers. White earned the job entering the 2018 season, and after a couple of tentative starts he is really starting to get comfortable as the starter.

In the Mercer game, White looked like a prototypical Memphis quarterback as he went 22-of-28 for 358 yards and five touchdowns. When he first faced a fellow FBS program in American Athletic Conference play against Navy, White had a completely different result.

Navy largely shut down the new Memphis quarterback, as White went 15-of-25 for only 145 yards and an interception. White was also one of four Memphis players to cough up a fumble in that contest, though his butterfingers play was the only one that was recovered by the Tigers.

In the big win over Georgia State, White showed that his efficient takedown of the Bears in the season opener wasn’t an aberration. White finished 19-of-26 for 269 yards on Friday night, racking up five touchdowns and avoiding any turnovers. When White is at full steam, he is a conduit through which the entire offense runs more efficiently.
