College Football: Every turnover prop, ranked
2. Georgia Bulldogs – Savage Pads
Nothing is scarier than a 6-foot-5, 260-pound linebacker…unless you throw shoulder pads on him that have spikes coming out at you in every direction. Obviously, the player can’t actually wear the Savage Pads in the game, but the intimidation factor is at a high with this turnover prop. Plus, in terms of relating to the game, this is the best turnover award.
What’s even better is that the Georgia Bulldogs sport this look. The combination of the black and red on their uniforms, with the nickname Bulldogs, gives this look credibility. The only other team that can pull off this look better is the Oakland Raiders (but they’ll probably just trade their best fan tradition for some draft picks). Georgia’s Savage Pads are intimidating and amazing but fall just short of being the top dogs on our list.
1. Miami Hurricanes – Turnover Chain
Last season, the Miami Hurricanes defense was one of the best in the nation. And to go along with that defense, was a gold chain with a blinged out “U” given to the player who committed the most recent turnover. This season, the chain went through some drastic changes, and now sports their angry duck mascot. The reports cost of their new turnover chain is $98,456!!
The Turnover Chain made it’s appearance quite often last season but it took five quarters of football for the Hurricanes to hand it out for the first time this season. The U land at number one for a lot of reasons: the idea, the price, the chain itself, plus it really brought out the concept of rewarding a player for a turnover. They weren’t the first team but they were definitely the pioneer that made turnover props a part of college football history.
