Following a frustrating victory over Ball State, Notre Dame football gave fans a scare again with a 22-17 Week 3 win over Vanderbilt.

Notre Dame and Vanderbilt had only met twice prior to this year’s meeting, with both of those games going the Irish’s way. However, those two games came in 1995 and 1996, leaving the two programs as nothing more than acquaintances. Nevertheless, there was plenty of grit in this one, providing an exciting game throughout.

After coming out flat against Ball State, there was a significant concern that a frustrated Notre Dame offense would struggle mightily against a tougher Vanderbilt defense. However, quarterback Brandon Wimbush led the Irish to a field goal before capping off a touchdown drive with a 12-yard rushing score.

This hot start helped, but the offense faded at points throughout the game. With that said, here are three takeaways from the Irish’s latest win.
